History
Welcome to the history page of Barosaurus Software. Here you can find information about my journey and milestones. For my professional career, see my LinkedIn profile.
Since my parents bought a Commodore 64 when I was 10, my interest in software development began to grow. In high school my midterm exam (in 1996) was a simple poker game called TPoker. The game was written in Turbo Pascal, hence the T in the name, and ran as a DOS console application. This is also where I decided the name for my software company, Barosaurus Software. Many teenagers, back then and today, have a fascination with dinosaurs, so naturally my software company is named after one. The original source code will be put on my GitHub page soon. Check the Turbo Pascal projects page for a video of the game in action.
After handing in the assignment I decided to convert the game to Super VGA graphics mode (640x480 with 256 colors) using the Borland Graphics Interface (BGI). The result can be seen below. When presenting the game at the exam, the PC they provided was not able to run the game in Super VGA mode. We had to go to the teacher's office, as they had the only PC at the school capable of running the game in Super VGA mode. Imagine the eyes on my fellow classmates when I left the examination room after a few minutes and was "escorted" to the teacher's office! I received the highest possible grade for the exam.
This kick-started my dream of becoming a professional game developer. I did end up working as a software developer, but the games are still my spare-time passion. I have since worked with a variety of technologies and platforms, always eager to learn and adapt to new challenges, and always creating lots of game demos, tech demos, and proofs of concept in my spare time. This website is now dedicated to showcasing some of my projects and sharing my passion for software development with the world. The background image is generated by ChatGPT by asking it to convert the black and white image of the dinosaur into a photorealistic image of a barosaurus at dawn with a prehistoric landscape in the background. I think the image turned out awesome and just as I imagined as a child, when my drawing skills (still today) were very limited.
I have never released any of my games, so this website will contain some of the projects I have worked on so far.
